Para uma sociologia da maternidade. Um retrato temático da investigação sociológica portuguesa

Abstract

A maternidade, a reprodução, a gravidez e o parto formam uma categoria temática que é estudada pela sociologia de forma transversal. Em Portugal, poderá dizer-se que existe já uma produção considerável de investigação sociológica sobre a maternidade, mas que, por comparação a outros temas, não é abundante e encontra-se dispersa por diversas instituições, diversos autores e diversas áreas temáticas. A partir de uma ampla lista de referências, foi possível trazer à luz esta diversidade e analisá-la, revelando algumas das suas caraterísticas próprias.

Motherhood, reproduction, pregnancy and birth are subjects that can be gathered in a thematic group that intersects several areas of sociology. In Portugal, we can state that there is relevant production of sociological investigation about motherhood, although it is a small number of publications compared to other domains, scattered over several institutions, different authors and a wide range of themes. Building and analysing an extensive thematic list of references brought to light this diversity and revealed some of the features that are specific of this particular thematic group.
